EdOrange Beach fishingitor’s Note: Captain Butch Tucker, the captain of “Zeke’s Lady,” docked at Zeke’s Marina in Orange Beach, Alabama, has been a charter-boat captain on Alabama’s Gulf Coast for 36 years.

During February, we’ll catch every species of known reef fish, and even though we can’t keep red snapper, we’ll be catching and releasing a number of them. We can, however, keep five or six other species of snapper that are just as good to eat and as much fun to catch. We also will be catching grouper, triggerfish and scamp.

Too, we’ll be running 6-hour walk-up trips in February and March during spring break. A big advantage of taking a walk-up trip is you generally only have to call Zeke’s Marina’s charter office aOrange Beach fishing few days ahead and let them know when you want to fish, and how many will be in your party. Zeke’s can get you on either my boat or someone else’s boat for your fishing trip. We like to do 6-hour trips instead of 4-hour trips, because we can get further offshore where the water temperature’s a little warmer. Too, while there, we can catch more keeper fish. Vermilion snapper, white snapper, Lane snapper, triggerfish, the occasional grouper, amberjack and a few scamp usually will be in our catches this month. A fisherman who generally fishes pretty hard will have plenty of fish to eat, while he’s here at Alabama’s Gulf Coast, and have some fish to take home. A 6-hour trip usually costs from $60 to $80 per person, depending on the time of year, and this price includes everything except food and drink. We try to make our trips very affordable for everyone. Also, our trips are fun for families where ladies, children and inexperienced and experienced anglers all can have good times catching fish.

Also, remember, spring break is just around the corner. So, if you’re considering coming to Alabama’s Gulf Coast then and want to fish during spring break, be sure toOrange Beach fishing call several days ahead to make sure you get a good trip. If you’ll be booking a private trip on one of the other charter boats, call this month to get the captain and the boat you want for your spring-break fishing vacation, since just about everyone who comes to the Gulf Coast in March on spring break wants to go fishing. And, they should. The Orange Beach, Alabama, area has plenty of fish available for the catching in February and March. All we need are anglers to hold the poles and wind ‘em up.
