NOAA Fisheries Service has modified the boundaries of the closed fishing area to better reflect the current location of the BP oil spill. Although commercial and recreational fishing including catch and release is prohibited in the closed area, this represents slightly less than 4.5 percent of Gulf of Mexico federal waters. The vast majority of Gulf waters have not been affected by the oil spill and continue to support productive fisheries and tourism activities. Charter boats are leaving Orange Beach, Gulf Shores & Fort Morgan every day to fish areas up to 25 miles out and in our very plentiful inshore waters.
