Thirty-two fishermen caught 64 red snapper in 36 minutes of actual fishing time, on the “Reel Surprise” party boat with Captain Randy Boggs of SanRoc Cay Marina in Orange Beach, Alabama, the last week in June. “The fishing was so good that we didn’t caOrange Beach charterstch or have to throw-back any under-sized snapper,” Boggs explains. “The red snapper caught by our clients weighed 8- to 10-pounds each, and we had about 15 snapper that weighed 10 to18 pounds.”

“Today we’ve set a new boat record, because we’ve never had that many people catch that many big fish in such a short time, in the years I’ve been fishing.” Doug Swager, a corporate pilot for 20 years from Prospect, Texas, explains. Swager has come to Orange Beach to enjoy the fine fishing there for 7 or 8 years. “We were at SanRoc Cay Marina and had just come-off the dolphin tour boat,” Swager recalls. “We saw the charter office for Reel Surprise Charters. I’d never fished on a head (party) boat before, where anyone who wanted to fish could go on a boat together with other fishermen he didn’t know. But the price was right, so we made our reservations to fish the next day. I think party-boat fishing is a great way to learn how to catch fish. I caught a 20-pound red snapper today, and I didn’t think I would get it in the boat. My son- in-law and I got on the boat with 20 people we didn’t know, but we really had a good time. We got to visit with a lot of different people, and I was surprised that we didn’t have a problem with lines getting tangled. The three deckhands taught people how to fish and land good snapper; this trip was really a good fishing experience.”

Jeremy Hall, from Salina, Tex.,Orange Beach charters was also on the trip. “This is the first time we’ve ever fished on a party boat. Before we got on the boat, I was concerned about having 20 people on the boat I didn’t know. However, the other people we fished with really made the trip fun. We got to meet new people and have fun while fishing with them. I was really surprised about how big the red snapper were that we caught. We’ve chartered a boat just for our family before and didn’t catch any fish. However, on the “Reel Surprise,” as soon as we put our baited hooks in the water, we started catching red snapper. I really enjoyed not only catching my limit of red snapper but also watching the people all around me catch fish. I would recommend anyone take a charter-boat fishing trip like we had on the ‘Reel Surprise.’ I’d go fishing on a party boat again in a heartbeat.” To learn more about Captain Randy Boggs’ fishing trips, go to http://www.reelsurprisecharters.com, or, call 251-981-7173 or 1-800-806-7889.
