Sea Turtles Bring New Life to Beaches

Sea Turtle‘Share the Beach,’ is the message folks at Alabama Sea Turtles want to send beachgoers from May to October, when dozens of mama turtles make their way onto our shores looking for a safe place to nest and lay their eggs.

Three varieties of sea turtles, all endangered, come to the Alabama Gulf Coast, including Loggerheads, Green and Kemp’s Ridley. To help the thousands of hatchlings make their way to the water, the group asks visitors to follow a few simple steps posted on the Share the Beach website.

More Beach Fun
Get your calendar out, because there’s so much happening in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach this time of year! May 15 to 19, make your way to The Wharf Marina for the Orange Beach Billfish Classic. Weigh-ins begin Friday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at the marina.

Spectra Light ShowConcerts at the Coast will be hopping all summer with great shows like Lady Antebellum, Alabama, the Dave Matthews Band and more. While you’re at The Wharf for concerts or for the fishing tournament, hang around for the 100 Days of Summer Spectra Light Show, beginning May 24 and continuing through the summer. The Wharf will be all the colors of the rainbow during a spectacular light and sound show nightly. There will also be a Family Fun Zone with rides and games.

SummerTide Brings Sweet Home Alabama to Annual Theatre Production!
Put a song in your heart during the SummerTide Theatre’s production of ‘Jubilee – Songs of and About Alabama,' May 31 to June 28. This is the 10th year the University of Alabama’s Theatre Department has made South Baldwin Community Theatre in Gulf Shores its summer home and brought professional musical theatre to the area. This year’s show offers a riveting compilation of songs about or invoking the ‘Heart of Dixie’ state. ‘Jubilee’ includes several different musical genres including: blues, rock, country and gospel. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children under 12. Group rates are available.

Q: My family wants to go on a Twilight Tour of Fort Morgan. Can anyone share some tips on the tours and how much they cost?
A: You’ll take a step back in time on the Twilight Tour at Historic Fort Morgan. Hear living history interpreters, dressed in Civil War-era costumes, tell the story of Fort Morgan's Civil War service through historic vignettes based on actual events.  Evening tours are held each Tuesday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., during June and July, weather permitting. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 18 and free to children under 6. Wear comfortable shoes, and call before you come to make sure there is no cancellation because of weather.
