AROUND THE ISLAND
It's Sea Turtle Time
Sea TurtleIf you have ever been lucky enough to witness a sea turtle nest hatching, then you know it is a memory that lasts a lifetime. Seeing those tiny turtles make their way to the surface and then instinctually head to the water . . . well, it is truly awesome.

We are in the middle of our sea turtle nesting season and there are lots of ways you can help.
  • Avoid using flashlights or flash photography on the beach at night.
  • Turn off outside patio lights and shield indoor lights from shining onto the beach at night.
  • Do not disturb sea turtle nests or tracks.
  • Do not leave trash on the beach.

And we hope you'll join us and find your favorite reasons to fall for the beach!

This year's event takes place on September 21 from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Volunteers are asked to come prepared with sunscreen, a hat, gloves, shoes and lots of water to drink. Trash bags are provided.

We've been encouraging our Facebook fans to get involved, and here is some of their
